On Friday, February 24, 2017, approximately 60 Realtors, Attorneys, and CPAs attended a 1031 Exchanges seminar hosted by Valley Land Title Co. at Lone Star National Bank Corporate Office. VP of Investment Property Exchange Services, Inc. (IPX1031®) Carl Pikus presented a course for 1 hour CE Credit discussing topics such as types of 1031 exchanges, rules and timelines required for a successful exchange, potential short and long term tax benefits, and types of properties you can exchange – Carl’s extensive background in real estate financial planning enables him to strategically offer customized comprehensive 1031 solutions. VLTC plans to host additional events like this for CE credit in the coming future.

Valley Land Title Co. initiated the “Heart of a Child” project to collect unwrapped toys for underprivileged children and partnered with CASA of Hidalgo County, Inc. VLTC employees donated over 100 toys in honor of long time VLTC employee, Laura Mesquita, who has volunteered as a CASA advocate for 7 years. “We wanted to help make a difference and create a wonderful memory in a child’s life,” commented Susan Valdez, VLTC Director of Administration. CASA of Hidalgo serves over 1,000 children in foster care and VLTC wanted to do their part in ensuring that each child receives acknowledgement in their accomplishments, birthdays and holidays. The Mission of CASA is to speak for the best interests of the children in the courts by promoting and supporting quality volunteer representation to provide each child a safe, permanent and nurturing home. Carmen C. Cortez, Policy Manager at Valley Land Title Co. has been inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame. Carmen was nominated by her community, the city of Alamo, for her outstanding service and civic contribution. She was inducted to the 2016 Rio Grande Valley Walk of Fame at the RGV Walk of Fame Dinner on Thursday, February 3, 2016. Each year nominations are received from cities and chambers of commerce across the Valley. Inductees are chosen by the RGV Walk of Fame Commission and are recognized at the ceremony with a brick paver. This year the inductee was presented with a commemorative plaque instead of a brick paver since each honoree will have their name added on a wall inside State Farm Arena. Hundreds attended the 2016 ceremony where more than 30 business and civic leaders were inducted into the Walk of Fame.
